💬 Bootstrap or raise?

🟢 Open💶 Fundraising📣 GTM & Positioning🛠️ Technology & Product updated 20 Oct 2026 · raised Oct 2026

The ask

This is the one decision we want to get right.

Do we bootstrap until traction is seen and felt, or raise money to command the traction, connections and expertise we need?

Context

  • 🌱 Visualli® is in early access: 41 users, free until the beginning of 2027.
  • ❓ No usage or retention data yet, so traction isn't proven either way.
  • 👋 A founding team of three, with two engineering leadership roles still open.
  • 💸 Running costs are low: serverless, EU-hosted, and people and AI agents build together.
  • 🤝 Startup programs from AWS, Claude, Cloudflare and MongoDB help keep Visualli free to try.
  • 🌍 The audience is every visual learner, worldwide, and Big Tech may ship visual maps for free.

Options we see

Option Bet Risk
A Bootstrap.
Grow on our own until traction is seen and felt.
We raise later, on better terms, with proof in hand. Full control meanwhile. Slower. Others may move first. Hard to hire the two leads.
B Raise now.
Use money to command traction, connections and expertise.
Speed, a fuller team, and investors' networks open doors. Raising on a thin story. Dilution, and pressure to grow before the product is ready.

What we'd love from you

  • 💶 Fundraising: What traction would make the next conversation easy, and by when? What does waiting cost us with investors? Is there a sensible middle path?
  • 📣 GTM & Positioning: How much traction can we realistically earn without money, and how fast?
  • 🛠️ Technology & Product: How long can a lean stack and a small team carry us before money or hiring becomes the real constraint?
